Miniature Cattle Information & FAQs

Here at Ancient Oaks Farm we specialize in polled High Parks. Our cattle have correct and stout conformation, great hair, and naturally short stature. We prioritize temperament and we do not keep any animal in our breeding program that is not friendly and pleasant to be around. Our cows are breeding stock but they are also pets to our family and very loved. 

So what exactly IS a miniature cow?

While it seems self-explanatory, there are actually a few size classifications for miniature cattle. A mid miniature cow is between 42" and 48" at top of back. A miniature cow is 42" or less at the top of the back. A micro miniature is 36" or less at the top of the back.  

Miniature cattle are much shorter and smaller than standard cattle, but they are still large animals!

We try to focus on quality of animal over inches. 

How do I buy a cow from Ancient Oaks Farm?

When we have available cattle, we will post them on our "Available" page as well as our Facebook page. Please reach out to us to inquire. We know a fantastic livestock transporter that we can put you in touch with if you need transport. 

What is included in the price of my calf?

Every calf we sell will be vaccinated, dewormed, weaned and eating well on grass/hay/feed, and well socialized. We spend a lot of time with our cattle and it is our goal to sell calves that will make fantastic pets or breeding stock and be easy to handle for their new owners. If a health certificate is needed for shipping we will provide that as well prior to the date of pick up. 

Do you offer bottle babies?

No, we do not. We believe that it is best to for the health of our calves to remain with their moms as nature intended. 

Do you vaccinate your calves?

Yes, we do. Each calf will be sent home with records of every vaccine and dewormer given prior to them going home. 

What do you feed your cows?

Our cows live full time on pasture so have access to grass 24/7 and are also supplemented with hay in the winter months. On top of that we give them free choice access to Vitaferm loose mineral, Mineral Max, kelp, and a protein tub. Sometimes our cows do need extra calories from grain (for example, when nursing calves), and we will offer grain on an as-needed basis.
